Basement floors

What's included

Connecticut basements deal with moisture coming up through the slab. Coat over it without a plan and the floor can bubble and lift. We start by checking for moisture, and use a moisture vapor barrier (MVB) primer where the slab needs it.

  • Moisture testing
  • MVB (moisture vapor barrier) primer where needed
  • Crack and surface repair
  • Professional diamond grinding
  • Flake or metallic finish
  • Coating over existing tile, where the tile is sound

Prep comes first

Most coatings fail because the concrete was not prepared. Every floor we do starts with professional diamond grinding and repairs, before a single coat goes down.

FAQ

Basement floors: common questions

My basement gets damp. Can it still be coated?

Often, yes. Jay checks the slab for moisture first. Where it is needed, he applies an MVB primer before the coating, so moisture does not push the floor off. Active water leaks need to be fixed first.

Can you coat over existing tile?

In many cases, yes. Coating over tile is one of Jay's skills. The tile has to be solid and well bonded, so he checks it during your quote.

Will it feel cold?

The coating is thin, so the floor feels about the same as the concrete under it. It will not feel colder than it does now, and rugs work fine on top.
